12.10.06 - DUXBURY: "THE BALL JUST WOULDN'T GO IN"
LEE DUXBURY was disappointed not to claim all three points in last night's Reserve clash with Carlisle, but was pleased with the performance and praised Cumbrians goalkeeper Adam Bradley.
"It was a game of missed chances", the ex-Latics captain explained. "No matter what we tried the ball just wouldn't go in, and their goalkeeper made several great saves.
"Although the result is disappointing, I was pleased with the performance. The lads worked hard, and Carlisle only looked dangerous on the break. Glenn Murray looked good for them in the first half, but I sorted that out at half-time and we dealt with him after the break.
I'm disappointed in Neal Trotman for the goal - you should mark men, not space - but overall the performance was good."
Duxbury's side are still unbeaten this season, and the boss hammered out a defiant message to his side:
"Like the first team, we've got to keep this run going. The two games we drew should have been won, and people should be looking to bang on the first-team door.
"Wolfy [Matty Wolfenden] showed some great touches and he's in good form. Chris Hall can't buy a goal at the minute but he'll get there, and Matty Barlow looks nice and sharp in training.
"There's some big-time competition up front."
