23.01.07 - CORNEY: NO INTEREST IN SELLING PLAYERS
SIMON CORNEY has moved to quash transfer rumours with the January window still open.
With the transfer rumour mill in full swing over the last month, Mr. Corney - one of the three American-based businessmen who purchased the club back in 2003 - confirmed in an exclusive interview with Latics World that the club do not wish to sell any of their prize assets before the end of the season.
Chairman Simon Blitz, Danny Gazal and Simon Corney himself have invested heavily in the club since their takeover, and remain anxious to push the club forward by retaining the cream of the young talent:
"It's very important we keep this squad together", he stressed. "What would we get for our money anyway? If we sell, we'd only have to buy again, and we know that at the moment we have a team capable of challenging for promotion.
"We've no intention of selling players in the current transfer window. Things may change in the summer, but I'd like to think they'll all be here next season as well."
Latics' search for a striker has been well-documented, and the coaching staff are continuing to scout around for potential additions to the squad. Mr. Corney reiterated the fact that Shez can count on full backing:
"John is allowed to bring in one or maybe two players, but we need the right person so it's a bit of a catch-22 situation. I would like to see someone here, and John knows he can bring someone in."
