DICKOV'S JPT PLEDGE

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Latics kick off their Johnstone's Paint Trophy campaign tomorrow with Paul Dickov determined to give the competition his best shot.

The Latics manager has pledged to play his strongest team against League Two side Shrewsbury Town at Boundary Park, kick off 7.45pm.

Dickov has set his sights on having a successful cup run in one of the three knockouts. And having bowed out of Carling Cup at the first hurdle, he only has two left to target.

The Johnstone's Paint Trophy, open exclusively to League One and League Two clubs, offers the most realistic prospect of silverware.

While some clubs dismiss the competition's importance, that is not the case for Dickov.

He said: "If clubs reach the latter stages, especially the final at Wembley, there is a lot of money to be made which is important for clubs like Latics.

"I have been lucky to play at Wembley a number of times and it is a great day out for the players as well as for the fans which is why I want to do well in the competition.

"Obviously at this stage we cannot look further than playing Shrewsbury who are flying in League Two and who will be a difficult team to beat."

Latics, mindful of the expense of having three home games in one week, wanted to give free admission tomorrow, but Shrewsbury would not agree to the move as they are entitled to a share of the revenue.

There will be greatly reduces prices, however, of £5 for adults and £2 for pensioners and children while under-16s will be given free admission in the Leesfield Develoipments Rochdale Road Stand.
