Scottish midfielder Gary McDonald became John Sheridan's first capture as Latics manager in summer 2006.
McDonald -- once a member of the Scotland Future squad comprising the cream of young players north of the border -- joined Latics on a free transfer from Kilmarnock.
He started his career as a trainee at Rugby Park, and progressed quickly through the youth set-up to the first team.
He went on to make 116 appearances for Killie, scoring fourteen times before moving south on a two-year deal.
McDonald made 49 senior appearances as Latics qualified for the Coca-Cola League One play-offs in 2006/07, scoring seven times.
