Striker Matthew Wolfenden signed a new two-year contract with the club in summer 2007.
A product of the Boundary Park youth system, the forward has the distinction of being one of Latics' youngest-ever players.
The striker made his senior debut during the 2003/04 season as a substitute against Swindon Town aged just 16 years and 115 days.
A regular scorer at reserve and youth level, Wolfenden impressed in Lee Duxbury's second string last season with his hold-up play, deft touch and explosive turn of pace.
He made eight appearances for the first team in 2006/07, scoring his first-ever senior goal in the 3-1 defeat at Blackpool in the second leg of the Coca-Cola League One play-offs.
The nippy frontman was a regular off the bench in 2007/08, scoring on three occasions.
A frustrating first half of the 2008/09 season was disrupted by injuries, but Wolfenden will be hoping for better fortune in 2009.
