Stefan Stam signed for Latics following a successful trial period during the 2003/04 season.
The Dutchman -- who played for PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar before making the switch to Boundary Park -- made 13 appearances in 2004/05.
However, persistent injuries meant he could only add another 13 to his tally in 2005/06.
Stam made a strong start to Athletic's 2006/07 campaign, but again struggled with injury and finished the season having appeared 25 times (1 goal).
But he put his injuries behind him to clock up a career-high 41 appearances in 2007/08.
Stam is a popular figure around the club and provides additional experience in the centre or on the left side of defence.
