Jason Jarrett joined Athletic on an emergency loan from Preston North End in January 2008, extending the deal until the end of the season shortly afterwards.

A high-energy midfielder at home in either a defensive or attacking role, Jarrett began his career at Blackpool before arriving at Bury via Wrexham.

It was at Gigg Lane where he made his name, making 71 appearances between June 2000 and March 2003.

He then moved to Wigan Athletic in a £75,000 deal, helping the Lancashire side secure promotion into both the Championship and then the Premier League.

A move to Norwich followed in June 2005, but the midfield man was on his way to Plymouth in November and later Preston in March 2006.

Jarrett narrowly missed out on a third career promotion as he helped Preston to the Championship play-offs in 2005/06, only to lose out to Sean Gregan and Leeds in the semi-finals.

The player's performances resulted in North End making the deal permanent in July 2006, and he was loaned out to both Hull and Leicester last season.

He was a first-team regular at the Walkers' Stadium after joining in February, starting 13 Championship matches.

Jarrett has also played in the Championship this season, making two appearances during a loan spell at QPR.
