TOWN DOWN SECOND STRING

Latics' reserve side slipped to a home defeat in a close game against Roses rivals Huddersfield Town.
With their respective senior bosses -- John Sheridan and Andy Ritchie -- watching from the stands, both sides played their part in a keenly-contested clash that was eventually settled by a single goal.
The breakthrough came early on when Daniel Broadbent found space on the right-hand side of the box and slid home a low shot despite being forced wide by goalkeeper Josh Ollerenshaw.
But brighter news came in the form of defender Sean Gregan, who completed the full 90 minutes without any obvious problems as he continues to work towards full fitness.
The visitors came out brightly and had already come close through Curtis Roberts when Broadbent latched on to Lucas Akins' knock-down to give his side the lead.
And Akins almost created a second goal just a minute later, Tom Clarke firing off a shot from just six yards out only to see Paul Black pull off a super block on the goal-line.
Black was again in the right place at the right time on 22 minutes, pulling off a brilliant saving tackle to deny Broadbent with the striker looking to get a yard of space just inside the box.
Back came Latics, who came close through a well-struck effort from Ashley Kelly and a free kick from Lee Snodin.
But the two chances sandwiched an unfortunate midfield clash which saw Town midfielder Tom Jackson leave the field of play on a stretcher.
Nathan Kilcourse couldn't convert at the start of the second half when his low shot from the edge of the area was saved by Simon Eastwood, while Akins came close at the other end.
Ollerenshaw did well to beat out a Roberts shot with time ticking down and at the other end Ryan Brooke single-handedly created his side's best chance of the match in the final minutes.
The Latics striker looked to have found the net following a great turn with a shot that deflected high off the lunging Clarke, but Eastwood somehow got himself across to tip the ball away for a corner to ward off a late equaliser.
