Latics Player spoke exclusively with Reserves coach Lee Duxbury on Thursday afternoon, following the League Cup win over Preston North End earlier in the week.
Latics brushed the visitors aside with a comfortable 3-0 win thanks to goals from Ferenc Fodor, Ryan Brooke and Kieran Lee, to retain their 100% record in the competition.
"I'm delighted with the win" said Duxbury, "that's 6 out of 7 now, well, I don't count the penalty loss at Manchester City to be honest as that's on penalties, and it was well deserved.
"We could really have been a couple up in the first half and we continued that to put in an overall good performance."
It certainly was a good performance from Athletic, Dean Brill making just one save in the entire game, which came from a cross-come-shot with just two minutes left to play.
Equally, at the other end Comrig in the visitors goal made a hat full of good stops to keep his side somewhat in the game, before Latics opened the scoring from an unlikely source, Fodor (known as Freddy) blasting home from some distance.
Duxbury explained, "Freddy is coming up for the standard long free kick, when he gets it from Nick's quick free kick, then he hits it left footed."
Dux joking "I'm thinking 'don't hit that!' and it takes a deflection and comes back to him and he hits it with his right instead and it flies in from 25+ yards."
It was a stunning strike from the Hungarian, who's today returned home for the Christmas period with his fellow countrymen, which epitomised Athletic's willingness to attack teams from all area's of the field.
"We've scored a few from set pieces this season" added Duxbury, speaking of Fordor's involvement in Brooke's goal for Latics, "the deliver from Chris Rowney is good and Freddy flicked it down to Brookey to score.
"Ryan's been great for us, he puts himself about, works his socks off and most important he scores goals. Kieran Lee's had a tap in after Danny Gardener's run and Kieran's had a good match too - it's his home town - I'm delighted for him to show what he can do.
"We have a settled back four and I've worked a lot on not giving goals away, Rowney sits just in front to protect them and Brill is an experienced stopper which helps.
"To add to that, I've been delighted with the kids coming through, the second years, Laquan Esdaile-Biney was unfortunate not to play - seniority took over at the back - and Phil McGrath and Will McCall have had runs too."
McGrath's involvement has been rewarded by an invitation in to the Irish Under18's training camp in the New Year, whilst the Reserves will be next in action away to Morecambe, also in the League Cup, on January 6th 2010.
