Latics Reserves v Accrington Stanley Reserves
Latics produced an entertaining first half at Ewen Fields when they took on their counterparts from Accrington Stanley.
With a first team game the following night Latics fielded a young line up with just Jon Worthington, Joe Colbeck and Ryan Brooke from the first team squad who were all searching for match fitness after suffering recent injuries.
It was the Latics youngsters that took the games to their opponents in the first period and their enterprising play certainly deserved a goal but the sides went into the half time interval all square.
However Latics did not take long to secure a lead in the second half as Djeny Bembo-Leta finally opened the scoring just two minutes in to the second period and it was no more than they deserved.
An hour into the game and Bembo-Leta got his second goal when he capitalised on a mix-up between the two Accrington central defenders to confirm Latics superiority.
It was always looking like Latics would increase their lead and ten minutes from time they did just that when Joe Colbeck crossed from the right and Ryan Brooke volleyed home.
Brooke then got his second five minutes later after good play between Colbeck and Bembo-Leta, the latter's ball into the box being headed into the net by Brooke.
On the stroke of full time Latics almost got their fifth goal when they were awarded a free kick 20yards out but Chris Rowney's shot was well saved by the Stanley 'keeper.
