Paris Cowan-Hall is a 19-year-old winger/striker who was released by Portsmouth in July.
He has since had trials at Burnley, Hull, Brighton and Hull before arriving at Boundary Park.
Cowan-Hall joined Portsmouth from Rushden and Diamonds in 2007 and last season played three league matches on loan at Grimsby Town.
He will be joined by giant 6ft 5in French centre half Julian Cherel who last week featured in the reserves against Manchester United in the Manchester Senior Cup.
The 27-year-old previously played one match for Hartlepool, ironically against Latics, and he has also appeared for French clubs Caen and Mondeville.
The Latics squad also includes senior players Sean Gregan (pictured), Jon Worthington, Andy Holdsworth, Joe Jacobson, Deane Smalley and DJ Bembo.
Rob Purdie is an absentee after going over on his ankle in training.
