Latics' Golf Day 2009 has been hailed as a big success after a full complement of teams teed off in the Spring sunshine at North Manchester Golf Club yesterday.

Participants enjoyed 18 holes of golf on one of the most challenging courses in the area before retiring to the 19th hole for a slap-up meal and some liquid refreshments.

The Leesfield Developments team - headed by Eddie Benedek - came out on top in the overall competition, winning Ping golf bags and equipment.

Shield Conservatories finished in second place, while Clayton Park Bakeries walked away with two prizes after scooping the Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin awards.

The most exciting shot of the day came courtesy of Chaddy The Owl, who managed to drive off the first tee and land his ball in the gravy in the restaurant (sorry, joke Chaddy!).

Representing the organisers, club official Gordon Lawton said: "The standard of play was excellent throughout the day and fortunately the weather held out.

"We would like to thank all the participants for their kind support during a difficult economic climate - and of course many congratulations to the winners."
