BURNS RED HOT FOR LATICS

Ryan Burns scored a hat trick for Latics' youth team which defeated Rotherham United 9-1 in a pre-season friendly at Chapel Road on Saturday.

Kyle Riley scored twice while there were also goals for Jack Laird, Matty A Carr, Connor Hughes penalty and James Tarkowski.

Coach Tony Philliskirk selected the goal which completed Burns' hat trick the pick of the nine as he bent a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the top corner.

Philliskirk added that that it was not the result, but the quality of the football his team played which was particularly pleasing.

"We passed the ball very well, pressed well when we weren't in possession, played the game at a good tempo while our pace hurt them," explained Philliskirk.

Latics' youth team is in action again tomorrow playing Ashton United at Hurst Cross, kick off 7.30pm.
