Returning as Academy Manager in the summer of 2023, Murray stepped in as caretaker manager in October, before being kept on as part of Micky Mellon's backroom staff.

Murray joined Latics as a player in December 2001, and spent two-and-a-half years at the club, helping Iain Dowie’s side reach the play-offs in 2003, before leaving for Portuguese side Beira-Mar.
He returned as coach in 2013, working under Lee Johnson, before leaving to take up the role as manager of Hartlepool United.
Since then, he’s worked as a coach for a number of clubs within first-teams and academies.
