Oldham Athletic Striker Mike Fondop Virtually Visited OACT School Partner Blackshaw Lane. 

Last week, Latics striker Mike Fondop logged in to Zoom to speak and spent time talking with Year 5 pupils from Blackshaw Lane Primary School.

The striker answered a variety of questions from the pupils and teachers, as well as turning tables and testing the on their maths and geography knowledge. The Cameroon born striker also spoke about his religion and about life back home, touching on the difference in culture and all about his career so far in England.  

Player Engagement opportunities with the Oldham Athletic first team squad allow schools in the area to engage with their local team in a unique way. These occasions help young people build an affinity to Oldham Athletic helping create life long supporters for the future.   

Oldham Athletic Community Trust school engagement manager, Emily Ashworth, commented: “I'd like to say a huge thank you to both Mike Fondop and also Blackshaw Lane for their time on Thursday afternoon.

Player engagement events, such as this last week, provide the opportunity to raise pupils aspirations as they find out about the sacfircies made to become a professional footballer. We also ensure that we work collabertively in the build-up to any events, making sure that any particular messages from the players to the pupils mirror those that the school provide on a daily basis.”
