Oldham Athletic Community Trust is working towards developing a brand new community initiative, as an extention to the 'Never Alone' project, for individuals who have retired or are planning to retire within the next two years.
What are we doing?
Along with Oldham fans and researchers (Dr Andrew Prestwich, Univ. of Leeds and Prof. James Reade, Univ. of Reading), OACT are keen to identify ways in which help and opportunities can be provided, targeted to groups of older people (those who have retired or are approaching retirement). We hope that these opportunities will provide an element of structure to life, something that we know can be challenging after the transition from paid employment to retirement. In addition, we hope that these opportunities will encourage fans to get out and about, do something that they may enjoy or interest them, and to meet like-minded people.
These possible opportunities relate to getting or keeping fit, socialising and/or contributing to the activities of the club or wider community. At this early planning stage, we’d really value your opinion on each of these suggestions. If you have any comments or ideas of your own, we’d love to hear them!
What help is needed?
If you are retired or within 24 months of your planned retirement, we would really appreciate you spending a few minutes completing a short survey before Friday 30 April.
If you are not eligible to take part but know somebody who is (maybe an older family member or friend), please mention this survey to them, as the more responses we receive, the better the initiative!
