April 23 Round up:

Easter Soccer Schools:

This month we hosted our OACT Easter soccer schools! The soccer schools ran for two weeks either side of the bank holiday weekend with some great football on show and lots of fun had.

We even had some special guests down to join us Chaddy the own as well as a number of our first team players including Timmy Abraham, Devarn Green, Ellis Chapman, Magnus Norman and Mike Fondop all stopping by and joining in the fun.

Teacher CPD events:

This month we visited FirBank school helping the teachers to build confidence when delivering PE lessons and also helped to show different ways to make sport accessible for all. Primary schools across Oldham can access our Teacher CPD by contacting our School Engagement Manager Emily Ashworth via email at emily.ashworth@oact.org.uk.

Player visits:

The Oldham athletic players made a number of visits throughout April with Timmy Abraham, Devarn Green, Ellis Chapman, Magnus Norman and Mike Fondop all making an appearance at our OACT Easter Soccer Schools.

Liam Hogan and Joe Nutall also hosted our last 2 school visits of the season as Joe made a trip up to Friezland Primary and Liam Hogan head to Oasis Limeside

Mental Health Matchday:

We hosted a Mental Health Matchday at Oldham Athletic for the game against Altrincham to create awareness and support for mental health and those suffering with mental health issues. Mental Health Football is a football initiative in Oldham offering a free game of football and a chat to anyone for free. We visited the session and spoke to a number of participants as we asked what MHF meant to them and why they attended as well as why football has a positive affect on their mental health in general! PL Kicks:

Participants from our PLKicks sessions attended the PL Kicks regional qualifiers in Liverpool hosted by the LFC foundation this month with a mixed and girls team taking part in the day.All the young people had a great day, getting out the house during half term spending time with their friends and playing football and a proffesionally hosted event!  

in partnership with Oldham Youth Service, we also hosted a #PLKicks friendly with participants mixing from our Monday Honeywell session and Friday Failsworth session! The young people then all joined us at Boundary Park to watch Oldham Athletic take on Maidenhead! 

 

Back to the Future Project:

Our Back to the Future project continued this month, supporting the ederly at keeping phyiscally active at home. As part of the project we visit 4 Housing21 sites across Oldham once a month to give them an afternoon of activity. Nintendo Switches and Darts have been a popular choice with the residents! The bowling on Nintend Switch has been really competitive! 

As a thank you to all the participants, we invited them to watch Oldham Athletic for the last game of the season! We look forward to continuing this project! 

Bowling Party:

To end the season on a high and celebrate a great year, we hosted an end of seasonJunior Latics Bowling to thank our young fans for their support this season! 

A great night was had by everyone as the party returned after the huge success of the Christmas party since its absence due to Covid-19. 

It was truly heart-warming to see so many young Oldham supporters in their shirts turn up and have a great night with the players celebrating the 2022/23 season.

End of season: 

On the 29th of April, the national league football season came to a close. It has been a huge season for Oldham Athletic Community Trust which has seen alot of our matchday engagement return for the first time since covid 19! We welcomed back mascots, we engage with matchday charity partners, we hosted junior latics bowling events, our play on the pitch opportunities returned and much much more. 

On the last day of the season, we took full advantage of celebrating with Northcare joining us as our charity partner for the day, our final play on the pitch of the season with Royton Hall and Firbank and matchday mascots! We also hosted a foodbank collection again in partnership with the club shop. 

We would like to say a huge thank you to the club, all the staff and all the players for supporting our community engagement and getting Oldham Athletic out and about in the community. 

 

Mascots:

We welcomed Vinnie, Noah and Teddy to our final game of the season to be mascots. They had a brilliant day meeting all of our Oldham Athletic players as well as Chaddy the owl.
