MATCH PREVIEW: Rochdale vs. Oldham Athletic

17 April 2018

Oldham Athletic will face local rivals Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena on Tuesday, April 17, 7:45pm kick-off.

The hosts will enter the match in high spirits after recording a 1-0 victory against Peterborough United at the ABEX Stadium at the weekend, but Latics have also been in good form and are unbeaten in the last four matches.

Dale captain Ian Henderson would have offered his side a significant threat in the final third, having netted in four of their last five matches, but will miss the A627 derby through suspension due to his sending off in Saturday’s victory.

Athletic will also be without one of their key sources of goals, as Craig Davies is unavailable due to an ankle injury. Duckens Nazon has shown he could be their go to man though, after netting on the stroke of half time in both of their last two games.

Latics manager Richie Wellens emphasised the importance of the match: “For me it’s like a cup final. If you win, you take a massive step towards what you want to achieve. If you lose then obviously it’s a massive dent.

“We’ve got a really important game coming after that at Wimbledon, so for me the two games are going to be cup finals.

“Just leave everything on the pitch. Go for the win. If we win both of those two games then it will put us in really good stead.”

A brace from Eoin Doyle helped Latics secure a 3-1 victory when the sides last met, but that has not prevented the hosts named favourites with Sky Bet priced at evens, whilst Athletic are priced at 14/5 and the draw is 12/5.
