Oldham Athletic will look to carry their recent league form into tonight’s match against Crewe Alexandra in the Checkatrade Trophy at Alexandra Stadium, 7:30pm.
The hosts are without a win in their last five matches and lost out 1-0 to Coventry at the Ricoh on Saturday.
By contrast, Oldham have won both matches since Richie Wellens took over as interim manager and Eoin Doyle has netted a brace in each.
Wellens spoke about motivating his side ahead of the trip to Cheshire: “I said before the Portsmouth game, it was an easy one for me.
"As long as I made sure I got the tactics right and what we were going to do when we were in possession and out of possession, I felt we could win the game.
“You turn up to a nice stadium, with a beautiful pitch and it’s easy for the players to get up for. This one will be more difficult, because it’s a Tuesday night, there won’t be many fans there, so then that’s my job to get the players up and make sure they carry on performing.”
Wellens also alluded to the possibility using tonight’s match as an opportunity to give game time to younger players, while Craig Davies may be unavailable, after having stiches on his knee.
The last four meetings between the teams have resulted in a two wins each, with the last seven matches being decided by no more than a single goal margin.
Latics are favourites with Sky Bet for this tie at 7/5 though, while Crewe are 9/5 and the draw is 5/2.
