MATCH PREVIEW: Crawley Town vs. Oldham Athletic

8 February 2019

Oldham Athletic are back in action and back on the road as they take on Crawley Town in the Sky Bet League Two fixture tomorrow (3pm).

With results not going Latics’ way in recent weeks, caretaker manager Pete Wild believes Latics need to get back to basics in order to start climbing the table once again.

"The feeling is one of we must improve, and we must get back to firstly, winning ways and then when we do that hopefully we can start climbing the table again.” He said.

“I think we can disregard the play-offs at this moment, and that's not me saying we can disregard it completely, I think we've got to start doing is putting some points on the board before we talk about that again.

"Like I've said, on many occasions League Two is an unforgiving league and what you've got to do is not get too low when things are not going your way and not get carried away when things are going your way.”

Wild will have a fully fit squad to choose from with the exception of new loan signing Oladapo Afolayan who will join up with the squad next week.

Our opponents Crawley currently sit below Latics in the table, but they have won more league games this campaign.

After the departure of Harry Kewell earlier in the season, Gabriele Cioffi has been the man in charge with tomorrow being a game both sides could do with winning.

Crawley’s only injury concern is Jimmy Smith who has actually been out with a problem he picked up at Boundary Park in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

In that reverse fixture, Latics ran out 2-1 winners after a late goal from Sam Surridge secured the three points after Gevaro Nepomuceno’s opener was cancelled out.

Latics haven’t won in their three visits to Crawley in the past and our only point came in October 2012 in a 1-1 draw.

Oldham Athletic are priced at 5/4 to beat Crawley Town.

There will be a familiar voice returning to iFollow Latics as Sam Rosbottom will be alongside Roy Butterworth on commentary for supporters who cannot make the game.

MATCH REPORT: Three Points And Three Goals For Latics

9 February 2019

Three second half goals from Johan Branger-Engone, Zak Dearnley and Gevaro Nepomuceno secured the three points for Oldham Athletic away at Crawley Town.

The home side had the best of the opening ten minutes as David Sesay was a constant threat down the left-hand channel.

The wingback had the first chance of the game after a driving run before seeing his shot blocked by George Edmundson.

Latics eventually started to grow into the game as Tom Hamer’s cross found Callum Lang, he laid it off to Mohamed Maouche who forced a great stop from Glenn Morris.

Johan Branger-Engone then produced a moment of brilliance down the right as he beat two Crawley men before trying to squeeze it past Morris at his near post, which the goalkeeper managed to save.

Edmundson had an effort cleared in front of goal before Luke Gambin curled an effort just over the bar as the sides went in level at half time.

Latics were let off early in the second half as hesitation at the back allowed Ollie Palmer a glorious chance, but he chipped it wide.

Branger-Engone then had one cleared off the line as Latics were pressing for the opening goal.

However, Daniel Iversen had to be at his best to tip over a Panutche Camara effort over the bar before Latics took the lead.

Substitute Dearnley drove forward and won Latics a freekick before Branger-Engone stepped up leaving Morris rooted his spot as it flew into the top corner.

Ten minutes later it was two as Branger-Engone lead the counter attack before sliding it into Dearnley who slotted home for a debut goal.

Latics weren’t finished there as another counter attack seem to break down, Nepomuceno stepped up and fired one into the top corner to seal the game.
