Latics welcome Stevenage to Boundary Park for a Sky Bet League Two fixture on Easter Friday (3pm KO).

Form Guide

Stevenage are amongst the form sides in the whole division and are currently on an unbelievable unbeaten run.

They have not lost since the 13th of February when Bolton Wanderers got the better of them and they have lost none of the 10 games since (W5, D5).

They've drawn their last four away games by a scoreline of 0-0, also not conceding in around 533 minutes of football since the 7th minute effort from Bolton (four 0-0s and a 1-0 win).

They have won their last two games but most of their away games of late have resulted in draws as mentioned above.

In the form table over the last 10 games, Stevenage are second only behind Bolton.

They currently sit 14th in the table, four points ahead of Latics and only eight points outside of the play-off places.

Head-to-Head

Meetings: 10

All ten meetings have also been in the last ten years, the first match being in September 2011 (1-1 draw).

Latics wins: 3
Stevenage wins: 4
Draws: 3

Scored: 11
Conceded: 14

It wasn’t a great day for Latics when they last came up against Stevenage.

Second-half strikes from Elliot Osborne, Luther Wildin and Luke Prosser saw the hosts secure an easy 3-0 victory at the Lamex stadium at the start of the campaign.

Team News

It looks like Zak Dearnley, George Blackwood and Marcus Barnes are still out of action for an extended period with injuries, but are all working hard on a return before the end of the season.

Ben Garrity and Sido Jombati are very close to getting back into the matchday squad, whilst goalkeeper Ian Lawlor is out injured for what looks like the remainder of the campaign.

Dylan Bahamboula is returning from international duty and should be available for selection in the coming days.

Watch Out For

Elliot List has been a big part of Stevenage’s recent upturn in form.

He was on the scoresheet in their last game, netting the opener in the 2-1 triumph over Barrow.

He has started in all of the 10 games in the unbeaten run, netting four times along the way, taking his total to eight league goals for the season in 35 appearances.

The versatile attacker started his youth career with Crystal Palace, but he broke into senior football with Gillingham.

He scored 10 times in his 102 appearances for the Gills before joining current club Stevenage for an undisclosed fee in August 2019.

The 23-year-old has netted 13 times in the 66 times he has played for Stevenage so far.

In The Dugout

Alex Revell is the man in the dugout for the visitors.

Alex Revell.jpg

This is Revell’s first job in management and he is yet to get his first win in management. He only took charge of two league games in the 2019/20 season as a result of the season ending prematurely.

Revell finished his playing career with Boro, retiring in July 2019 but he stayed on with the club, accepting a role as manager of the Under-18 side.

In January 2020, it was announced that Revell would come out of retirement to help the team in their ongoing relegation battle whilst retaining his coaching duties.

However, as a result of Graham Westley resigning as manager at the Lamex stadium, Revell was given the manager’s job in February.

Match Officials

The referee in charge is Ben Toner.

imagerpp1n.png

He has taken charge of 27 games in this campaign handing out 79 bookings and two red cards.

The last fixture he officiated involving Latics was in September 2020, a 1-0 defeat away at Morecambe in the Carabao Cup.

His assistants are Ravel Cheosiaua and Kevin Morris with Andrew Dallison as the Fourth Official.

Sky Bet Odds

Stevenage have been favourites at 29/20 to complete the double over Latics. Keith Curle’s men are 9/5 to claim all three points.

The draw is 11/5.

Piracy - and illegal streaming of matches - does not only carry the risk of potential criminal action, but also has a greater financial impact on clubs while supporters are unable to attend matches.

The EFL's campaign would like to not only convey the message that piracy is immoral and illegal, but that it is also financially damaging club's across the divisions.

Latics 0-1 Stevenage

2 April 2021

Scott Cuthbert’s first-half goal was enough for Stevenage to pick up the three points on Good Friday at Boundary Park.

Once again, Keith Curle named one change to the team after a defeat in the capital against Leyton Orient last weekend with Ben Garrity returning from injury to replace Coventry City loanee Marcel Hilssner.

Inside the opening five minutes, Harry Clarke misplaced a pass which allowed Luke Norris to intercept before taking on a few defenders, but Latics goalkeeper Laurie Walker managed to keep him out.

Stevenage nearly took the lead when they won a free-kick just outside the penalty box as Chris Lines, who played under Curle at Northampton Town, stepped up but his curling set-piece hit the side netting to the relief of the home side.

Alex Revell’s side managed to get themselves ahead in the 24th minute when Ben Coker delivered a superb corner to Scott Cuthbert at the back post and the captain’s looping header went straight into the far top corner.

The hosts looked to level the score as the in-form Alfie McCalmont slotted a pass to Davis Keillor-Dunn, however, his effort from the edge of the area was easily saved by Chelsea loanee Jamie Cumming.

Boro could’ve doubled their advantage as Elliot List found himself one-on-one with Walker, but the shot-stopper threw himself at the attacker and denied him from scoring.

McCalmont continued to try and make things happen for his side and, this time, he dribbled forwards before striking goalwards, but the goalkeeper was equal to it.

Latics started the second-half brightly and should’ve equalised when Nicky Adams provided a fantastic from a free-kick out wide, but Kyle Jameson headed over the crossbar from close range.

Following that, Conor McAleny crossed from the right-wing to Keillor-Dunn and he cleverly flicked to Garrity on the edge of the box, but the onrushing midfielder smashed his effort over the crossbar.

The lively List found himself clean through after a great pass by his strike partner Norris, but Walker managed to produce a great save to keep him out.

In the 74th minute, Stevenage’s Arthur Read, on loan from Bournemouth, raced into the area on the right-hand side before Jameson produced a late challenge on the midfielder with the referee pointing straight to the spot. However, Walker managed to keep Norris’ penalty out before he deflected his rebound onto the post.

Right-back Luther James-Wildin raced into the box and beat Carl Piergianni before playing the ball across the goal to List, but the forward missed from close range.

Stevenage nearly found the back of the net again from a corner when Coker’s set-piece found N, but his header skimmed the crossbar.

Latics were so close to scoring an equaliser late on as substitute Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s cross was cleared to Callum Whelan on the edge of the penalty area, the midfielder produced a brilliant piece of skill to beat two defenders but blasted his effort over the crossbar.

In added time, the boys in blue thought they had scored when Clarke played Fage down the right-wing and his low cross found Keillor-Dunn but somehow James-Wildin managed to clear it off the line which meant the visitors make it 11 unbeaten.
