Latics travel to Walsall for a key midweek Sky Bet League Two fixture tonight (7:45pm KO).
Last time out for a bitter blow for John Sheridan’s men as they conceded another goal deep into stoppage time to ensure they left the County Ground empty handed.
Form Guide
Oldham’s opposition come into this game on an impressive run of form.
With just one defeat from their previous seven outings, Walsall present a tough task for Latics who are looking to get back to winning ways on the road.
A solid 1-0 triumph last time out against promotion chasing Sutton United came following back to back 1-1 draws.
This much improved run came on the back of seven straight league losses, a run that had Walsall looking over their shoulders at the bottom two.
It is safe to say that those thoughts are but just a distant memory for them now as they sit much more comfortably in 16th place.
The only time that they have conceded more than one goal in a game during this run came in a 5-0 loss to Swindon Town, a result that looks more like a blip with every passing week.
The Saddlers’ last six:
- Walsall 1-0 Sutton United
- Barrow 1-1 Walsall
- Northampton Town 1-1 Walsall
- Walsall 3-1 Hartlepool United
- Swindon Town 5-0 Walsall
- Forest Green Rovers 0-1 Walsall

Walsall wins: 25
Draws: 15

Latics have won none of the previous three clashes against the Saddlers.
In the first encounter between the two clubs this season, Walsall came out victorious with a 3-1 victory at Boundary Park.
Two goals before the break from Jack Earing and George Miller put the visitors in the ascendency.
Hallam Hope halved the deficit in the 67th minute but a goal late on from Emmanuel Osadebe made sure of maximum points for his side.
The last time that Oldham came out on top in a fixture with Walsall was October 2019.
Goals from Scott Wilson and Desire Segbe Azankpo following the dismissal of Walsall player Mat Saddler saw Latics secure a 2-0 win.
Watch Out For & Familiar Face
Connor Wilkinson has been one of the reasons for Walsall’s recent up turn in form.
The forward has four goals in his previous seven fixtures and he will be looking to add to that tally when Oldham come to town.
He netted the winner from the spot during their last outing building on other recent goals in the Northampton draw and Hartlepool win.
Prior to this run, it hadn’t been the most fruitful of campaigns for the 27-year-old who has now seven league goals to his name.
It is a name that Oldham fans may remember from the time that Wilkinson spent on loan with the club.
Across two separate loan spells from parent club Bolton Wanderers, the forward played 18 times, netting on three occasions, including one against his now current side.
In the recent few seasons, Wilkinson has played for fellow League Two side Leyton Orient before making the move to Walsall in the summer transfer window just gone.
In The Dugout
Michael Flynn is the man in the dugout for the hosts.
The 41-year-old boss has had a tremendous effect since arriving at Walsall.
His first game in charge saw them end a 19 game unbeaten run of Forest Green Rovers with a 1-0 away win and since they have won twice more to lift them in the League Two table.
It is Flynn’s second job in senior management, the first coming with Newport County.
He enjoyed great success with the Welsh outfit. Most notably he performed a great escape to keep them in the Football League in his first season and then also went on to achieve some great giant killings in the FA Cup.
Leeds United, Leicester City and Middlesborough are a few of the sides that County were able to beat under Flynn’s stewardship.
