Latics took a point back to Lancashire thanks to Mike Fondop’s 83rd minute equaliser.

The hosts took the lead when Jay Bird pulled off a piroette on the edge of the area and found the bottom corner.

After three changes in the second-half, Fondop popped up at the back post with a solid header to secure a point for Unsworth’s team.

Latics had their fair share of the ball in the first-half, but failed to create anything more than half-chances.

The ball fell to Nathan Sheron outside the box, who looked to recreate his goal from the reverse fixture, but a red shirt blocked his shot.

Rooney was on the receiving end of Green’s cross and looked to find Sambou with a neat flick-on, but failed to do so.

Dagenham had chances of their own though, Effiong and Bird combined well on the edge of the area, with the latter pulling the trigger, failing to find the target.

But he found the target with ten minutes to go in the first-half.

The 21-year-old advanced forward with the ball and played a one-two with Sagaf, producing a piroette as the ball was returned, and fired into the bottom corner.

Coming out in the second-half, Latics showed keen intent to get a goal of their own.

Joe Nuttall cut in from the left and moved into a good shooting position, seeing his shot go just wide of the top corner.

Ellis Chapman and Mike Fondop entered play in place of debutant Bassala Sambou and Nathan Sheron, with Ben Tollitt coming on for the injured Devarn Green minutes later.

Inih Effiong looked to double the Daggers’ advantage with a shot from inside the 6-yard box, but Matt Hudson was equal to it and made a good save.

Chapman produced a great header from Nuttall’s cross, which won Latics a corner following a good save.

From the resulting corner, Fondop nodded the ball past Strizovic at the far post, pulling Latics level.

Rooney’s superb deep ball and Nuttall’s even better first touch saw him through on goal, only to be denied by the goalkeeper’s left foot.
After six minutes of stoppage time, the referee’s whistle blew with the score level.
