Latics vs. Barnet

12 November 2022

© Eddie Garvey

Latics are looking to boost themselves up the National League table when they welcome Barnet to Boundary Park.

Last week saw Oldham exit the FA Cup following a 3-0 loss to high flying Wrexham at the Racecourse ground.

The opposition

This is the fifth season that the Bees have spent at this level since their relegation from League Two in the 2017/18 season.

Since the aforementioned relegation, the highest finish they have posted is 11th whilst the lowest is 22nd.

Form guide

Barnet has lost just one of their previous five National League meetings, winning three of the games in that sequence.

The run is a nice upturn in form for the bees as prior to that they had won just one of their previous seven games.

They also remain in the FA Cup. They dispatched Weston Super Mare in the fourth qualification round, setting up a first round tie with Chelmsford.

They played out a 0-0 draw at the Hive, meaning they have to do it all over again in a replay.

They are in 9th position in the table, just one point away from a place in the playoffs.

The Bees’ last six

Altrincham 0-2 Barnet

Barnet 1-1 Chelmsford (FA Cup first round)

Barnet 0-3 Southend United

Barnet 1-1 Scunthorpe United

Bromley 1-3 Barnet

Barnet 2-1 Maidenhead United

Watch out for

Nicke Kabamba is the man likely to pose the biggest threat to Oldham’s back line.

The striker is fifth top scorer across the whole division with an impressive 10 goals in 18 games.

Upon his contract ending at Northampton Town in the summer, Kabamba linked up with the Bees.

He spent the back half of last season on loan to Woking but didn’t manage to hit the heights that he has this season, scoring just three league goals.

The 29-year old is without a goal in his last five which is something he will look to put right when he makes the trip to Boundary Park.

In the dugout

Dean Brennan is the man in the dugout for the visitors.

Brennan was first given the job on a temporary basis in 2021 following the departure of former Oldham boss Harry Kewell.

He previously held the role of Head of football but he has since changed, taking the head coach job.

The other clubs that the 42-year old has managed are Hemel Hempstead, Billericay Town, Kingstonian and Wealdstone.

As always, we will endeavour to ensure confirmation of the line-up is published as soon as possible on social media.

However, supporters should note that team sheets in the National League are not exchanged until an hour before kick-off. This is 15 minutes later than in the EFL and as a result, the line-up is likely to be published slightly later than in previous seasons.
