Latics stormed to a four nil win against Oxford City at Boundary Park.

Just like during the week, Oldham opened the scoring early when Gardner split open the defence with a stunning pass, which was slid home by Green.

Brennan Dickenson got his first of the game with a stunning strike, not too dissimilar to his effort against Aldershot.

Norwood fired home a third near the end of the second-half, and to top it off, Dickenson fired home a super free-kick in stoppage time, completing the humbling of Oxford.

In a near carbon copy of Tuesday, Latics started the game with attacking tempo, and after Nuttall headed over Green’s cross, and Sutton put Dickenson’s corner behind, Latics got their goal.

Dan Gardner produced one of his trademark defence splitting passes, finding the advancing Green, who shipped the ball onto his right foot, and finished nicely past Haigh.

Norwood had two good chances to double Latics’ lead, the first saw him look for the far corner from outside the box, but the second was by far the better of the two.

A deep cross reached the six-yard box where Norwood was waiting, it perhaps took him by surprise, but he didn’t connect properly, or with any power, and it was an easy save for the ‘keeper.

Brennan’s shot definitely didn’t lack power however, cutting in from the right, he conjured up memories of his effort against Aldershot, firing home a screamer from 30 yards out, giving the ‘keeper no chance.

Coming out in the second-half, Latics had a bit of defending to do. Oxford were denied twice in quick succession from efforts inside the box. The first was palmed away, but not cleared, by Hudson, whereas the second was blocked on the line by Hogan, who eventually got the ball away to safety.

Green looked to double his tally, and he had a great chance when a ball fell to him on the edge of the box, he struck it on the half-volley, but didn’t make clean contact with it.

Reid and Hope came on in place of Nuttall and Green, providing some fresh legs in attack.

Oldham had to be patient for their third, but came after Oxford goalie Haigh made two good saves, but couldn’t keep out the third, as Norwood fired the ball into the roof of the net from a super tight angle.

As the clock ticked over into stoppage time, Latics won a free-kick just outside the box, which was taken by Brennan Dickenson.

A super strike from the man they call the Hammer gave the ‘keeper no chance, giving Oldham their fourth.
