Latics in spot of bother

Latics found themselves in a spot of bother as Stevenage established a half-time advantage at Boundary Park in their npower League One match.

The visitors took the lead through a Lucas Akins penalty.

Latics had the first chance of the match in the sixth minute but Jean-Yves M'voto could only direct his header straight at keeper Chris Day.

Stevenage went close not long after when Marcus Haber's header flashed across the face of goal and narrowly wide.

It was very much a case of both sides cancelling out the other as neither was able to carve out a decent chance.

Stevenage made the all-important breakthrough in the 33rd minute after an error by James Tarkowski.

His weak header failed to reach keeper Alex Cisak (pictured) who brought down striker Haber just inside the penalty area as Lucas Akins scored from the spot.

Latics came close to an equaliser when Cristian Montano's angled shot was deflected into the side netting by Day.

Robbie Simpson then saw a header easily caught by Day as Latics looked for an equaliser.

Half-time: Latics 0, Stevenage 1
