First point for Latics

Latics picked up their first npower League One point of the season following a 1-1 draw against Walsall at Boundary Park.

But there was disappointment it was not three after a late mistake by Dean Furman presented substitute George Bowerman with an equalising goal.

Latics had taken a first-half lead through Youssouf M'Changama which for a lengthy period looked like being the match-winning goal.

There were hearts in mouths early in the second half when Latics' keeper Alex Cisak failed to catch a Jamie Paterson free kick at the far post and the ball trickled agonisingly wide for a corner.

Will Grigg also had a good chance for the Saddlers, but Jean-Yves M'voto (pictured) made a great covering tackle.

Jordan Slew and M'Changama both shot narrowly wide for Latics who made their first substitution midway through the half when Slew was replaced by Daniel Taylor.

There was a second substitution not long after when Cristian Montano was taken off and Connor Hughes given a run out for the last 20 minutes.

Walsall were gifted a 79th minute equaliser after substitute Bowerman latched on to a poor Dean Furman back pass to shoot low past Cisak.

It might have got worse for Latics as Jamie Paterson cut in from the left and fired a shot one yard wide of the far post when it looked as though he would score.
