Season-ticket holder's charity challenge

Latics' season-ticket holder John Stigwood has thought of an unusual way of celebrating his imminent 50th birthday.

The grandfather from Sholver is tomorrow undertaking a 50-mile row on a machine at Rhino's Gym.

HGV lorry driver John, better known to Latics' fans as 'Stiggy,' is in hard training and estimates the row will take over seven hours to complete.

And the money raised from the charity challenge will be donated to two worthy causes - Dr Kershaw's Hospice and for victims of the gas explosion in Shaw.

John is no stranger to such charity challenges and previously has rowed the the 22 miles of the English Channel on a machine and also twice burned off 5,000 calories on a cross trainer.

Anybody wishing to sponsor John can do so at www.justgiving.com/john-stigwood0 There are also sponsorship forms at Rhino's, Fitz Hairdressers, John Michael Hairdressers and the Ashton Arms.
