First-half report

1 December 2012

Defender Wabara is Latics' hotshot

Defender Reece Wabara scored an injury-time equaliser for Latics in their FA Cup with Budweiser, second-round tie against Doncaster Rovers at Boundary Park.

The defender's strike, his first for the club, cancelled the early strike from Robbie Blake which had given Doncaster the lead.

Latics hit back strongly with Lee Croft and Cristian Montano both striking the crossbar before Latics equalised.

Latics could not have made a worse start as they fell behind in the fourth minute following an unfortunate slip by Wabara (pictured).

The centre back lost his footing on the left and David Syers capitalised as he nicked the ball and burst past Jean-Yves M'voto.

Syers cut the ball back from the right for Blake to fire low past Alex Cisak from 12 yards.

Latics could have fallen two behind in the 21st minute but for a good save from Cisak.

Sammy Clingan sent a low corner to the edge of the box which was met by Syers whose terrific shot was well turned over the crossbar by Cisak.

Latics ought to have equalised midway through the half when Jose Baxter's diagonal ball released Montano who burst clean through. He lobbed keeper Gary Woods only for the ball to land on the roof of the net.

Croft missed a glorious chance to equalise just short of the half hour.

Montano's left-wing cross was not headed clear by Rob Jones leaving Croft free at the far post six yards out.

Croft cut inside before crashing a shot against the crossbar.

Latics were denied by the crossbar for a second time in the 40th minute following a short corner. This time Montano struck the frame of the goal with a drive from the edge of the box.

The equaliser came in stoppage time when Baxter's free kick from the left edge of the box was headed home from six yards by Wabara.

Half-time: Latics 1, Doncaster Rovers 1.
