M'voto is Latics' goal hero

Jean-Yves M'voto headed Latics in front in their npower League One match at Colchester United.

The big centre half (pictured) made the breakthrough in the 33rd minute with his second goal of the campaign.

Colchester created the first chance of the match in the second minute as Jabo Ibehre headed narrowly wide.

Latics gradually inched their way into the game and Jose Baxter's shot was off target following a mazy run.

Anthony Wordsworth made a dangerous break from midfield, but could only shoot straight at keeper Alex Cisak.

Colchester had Magnus Okuonghae booked for a foul from behind on Baxter.

Baxter fired the resulting in a free kick from 30 yards, but it deflected off the defensive wall for a corner.

Latics' best chance came of the game came after half when Jonathan Grounds, making an overlap on the left, saw his shot well saved by keeper Mark Cousins low to his left.

The breakthrough came when M'voto found the net with a terrific header from a Lee Croft corner,

M'voto headed the ball down and it went into the net off the underside of the crossbar.

Latics ought to have doubled their advantage when Cristian Montano cut the ball back from the left and James Wesolowski, bursting into the box from deep, fired wide when it looked as though he could not miss.

Baxter also had a great chance to add a second goal only to see his goalbound shot blocked by Okuonghae as Latics finished the half well on top.

Half-time: Colchester United 0, Latics 1.
