M'Changama leads Latics fightback

Youssouf M'Changama justified his recall to Latics' starting line up with a goal in the home npower League One match against Doncaster Rovers.

The midfield man's strike cancelled out Billy Paynter's early goal which had given the visitors the lead.

Latics made a disappointing start falling behind in the fourth minute.

David Cotterill's free kick to the far post was met by Paynter whose shot hit the upright.

The ball rebounded to Jones who headed high into the top corner of the net from 10 yards.

Latics responded positively as Jose Baxter and Matt Smith had goal attempts, but both flew well wide.

A long-range shot from Kyle Bennett was fumbled by keeper Dean Bouzanis on the slippery surface with Cliff Byrne completing the clearance.

Baxter made a terrific break from midfield and his 30-yard shot was well saved by keeper Gary Woods diving low to his left.

There was a three-minute stoppage when M'Changama (pictured) was injured after a clash with Paul Quinn.

Club doctor Rob Beardsell was summoned along with paramedics carrying a stretcher, but after treatment M'Changama continued with his right knee bandaged.

M'Changama showed no effects as he equalised in the 27th minute through a terrific 30-yard drive which went through the hands of keeper Woods as it found the roof of the net.

Latics came close to taking the lead six minutes later when Matt Smith's header from Baxter's free kick was brilliantly turned over by Woods.

Smith had to go off to hava a cut to his forehead attended to following a clash of heads with Jones.

Baxter then let fly with a long-range shot which was only narrowly off target and on the stroke of half time forced another decent save from Woods as Latics finished the half in the ascendancy.

Half-time: Latics 1, Doncaster Rovers 1.
