Ledger Latics' Mr Versatile

11 December 2012

Bob even played in goal - and kept a clean sheet

Latics' fan Vernon Rowe was interested to see the story posted on the official website about 1960's legend Bob Ledger (pictured) who was at the match at Doncaster Rovers as a guest of the club.

Vernon, who has been watching Latics since 1948, says Bob, now aged 75, is his all-time favourite player and that includes the Joe Royle era.

He added we were right to talk about Bob's versatility in playing everywhere from full back to striker.

Vernon also pointed out Bob even played in goal when David Best was injured in a cup tie against Notts County saying he didn't let a goal in.

He also explained that Bob was fittingly the first-ever winner of Latics' player of the year when it was introduced - he believes it was in 1966.
