Show your support for Hillsborough victims
Latics are asked to support the Reds' Roses Walk which is being undertaken this weekend in memory of the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy in which 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives.
The 96-mile route which take the walkers from the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield to Leppings Lane, Hillsborough, the scene of the tragedy in 1989, via Boundary Park.
It starts from Anfield at 7.15am tomorrow (Friday) finishing the following day in Sheffield.
The 96-mile route visits Everton, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Manchester City, Latics and Huddersfield.
The walk, which is hoped to raise £15,000 for the Hillsborough Family Support Group and Hillsborough Justice Campaign, is to be split into 16 stages of approximately six miles and there will be a different group of three/four walkers on each stage out of a core team of 12. Each person will walk between 24 and 30 miles.
Ninety-six roses will be laid at the memorial at Liverpool by the team at noon on Saturday when they arrive for the game against Aston Villa.
There will be a closed auction for signed football shirts and other merchandise and other merchandise from Liverpool, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, Brighton & Hove Albion, Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland, Celtic, Everton, Oldham, Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.
The walk was prompted by the report from the Hillsborough Independent Panel and also as a way of honouring the 96 and a tribute to the arduous battle for justice endured by their families for over 23 years.
