Second-half report

26 December 2012

Injury-time sickener for Latics

Latics lost 2-1 to an injury-time goal from substitute David Syers in their npower League One match against Doncaster Rovers at Boundary Park.

It was tough on Latics who produced a battling performance and looked set to pick up a point against high-flying Rovers.

Rob Jones headed Doncaster into an early lead, Youssouf M'Changama equalised with a peach of a goal only for Syers to have the last say at the finish.

Jean-Yves M'voto picked up a booking early in the second half, his fifth of the campaign which will earn a one-match ban.

Latics keeper Dean Bouzanis made an important save midway through the second half to deny Billy Paynter following a David Cotterill cross.

Bouzanis dived on the ball on the line after an almighty scramble.

M'voto (pictured) produced a goal-saving tackle to deny Cotterill after Doncaster's top scorer burst clean through.

Latics made their first substitution in the 84th minute when Cristian Montano replaced M'Changama who had an excellent game.

The game looked set to be heading for a 1-1 draw when Doncaster had the last word.

Bouzanis pulled off an excellent save to keep out a shot from substitute James Husband.

Then just as the fourth official indicated three additional minutes came Doncaster's dramatic late winner.

The ball was played in from the left and Syers guided a header low to the right of Bouzanis.

Full-time: Latics 1, Doncaster Rovers 2.
