Dan's joy soured by defeat

Dan Taylor admitted the joy of scoring his first goal in League football was soured by Latics' home defeat by Crewe Alexandra.

The 19-year-old striker (pictured scoring against Crewe), signed last summer after being released by Newcastle United, is delighted to be off the mark after a challenging campaign following a move away from his native North East.

Taylor, who has yet to establish a regular first-team place, said: "It was a proud moment to score my first goal in League football and for it to be the equaliser against Crewe.

"Unfortunately it only felt good for three minutes until Crewe scored their winner. And as we lost, it doesn't mean anything."

Taylor also had another chance as a cross hit him on the shoulder and flew over the crossbar.

"That chance came to me so fast, I couldn't get proper contact," he said.

Taylor is hoping it is the first of many goals for Latics.

He said: "I have been itching to get on to the pitch and it was good to finally get on and have my chance.

"I have been patient and feel I have been ready for a while.

"Hopefully I will get more chances to play and also to score more goals."
