Wesolowski on the spot

27 December 2012

James speaks out

What does James Wesolowski think of Latics' form, his own performances and team-mate Jose Baxter?

The midfield man (pictured) has taken taken time out to discuss a number of matters relating to Latics.

I thought we put on a good performance and were unlucky not to pick up at least one point and may be three.

It was a demoralising result, but there were positives as we got the ball down and played some great football.

We have suffered three losses in a row having come out of a good phase. We had been looking to push on and it is disappointing not to have done so.

If you look at Doncaster and ourselves, they are pretty even sides. They are more consistent which is why they are up at the top and we are not.

Jose is a top-quality player and one of the best in our division.

He is best in the No 10 position and he was still grafting and working hard when we were 4-1 down at Yeovil.

I believe Jose has all the attributes needed to play at the top level.

I have had a more defensive role which is why I haven’t been scoring goals.

It is important Dean Furman and myself get forward more to help take burden off the strikers.

Dean Furman will be a big loss when he goes to play for South Africa in the African Cup of Nations as he is our skipper and has been playing well.

We are lucky to have Robbie Simpson, Youssouf M’Changama and Carl Winchester who are more than capable of playing in his position when he leaves.

It wasn’t a surprise to see Youssouf score a spectacular goal against Doncaster.

He works every day after training on his shooting and cutting in on to his right foot and he does it consistently.

Youssouf is a threat coming in from the left.

If we produce a similar performance to Doncaster against Crewe, we can win.

The next game is always the most important one and I am sure it is one in which we can get three points.
