Latics mourn two former employees

31 July 2012

Tributes to Christine Derbyshire and Jack Walker

Latics have been saddened to learn of the deaths of former employees Christine Derbyshire and Jack Walker.

Christine lost a brave and lengthy battle against cancer at Dr Kershaw's Hospice.

She worked in the accounts department at Boundary Park for over 20 years until her retirement due to ill health.

Christine, who leaves her daughter Andrea, mother and sister, was a popular member of staff.

Chief Executive Neil Joy said: "Our thoughts go out to Christine's family and friends at this time.

"I could not have wished for a more hard working, diligent and loyal member of staff than Christine.

"She was also a massive fan and was still attending matches until the end of the season, despite her illness."

Jack was a groundsman who was well known throughout the local community.

He had spells tending both Latics and Oldham RL as well as pitches at various local cricket clubs.

Jack was a lifelong cricket man and supporter of CLL club Milnrow.

"We are saddened, too, to learn of Jack's death. He was also somebody who served the club well," explained Mr Joy.
