Latics shock City's Euro stars

31 July 2012

Simpson gives Latics half-time lead

Manchester City's Euro 2012 stars had a rude awakening in tonight's friendly at Boundary Park.

Latics established a half-time lead through a terrific goal from Robbie Simpson.

It followed a neat move involving James Wesolowski, Dean Furman, Youssouf M'Changama and Lee Croft who supplied the cross for Simpson to convert.

As widely forecast, there were appearances for Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, James Milner, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Nigel de Jong.

There was also a game for Roque Santa Cruz, but Mario Batoletti and David Silva weren't in attendance.

City enjoyed most of the possession and were unlucky not to draw level when Nasri and Milner set up Santa Cruz whose shot hit the upright.

Half-time: Latics 1, Manchester City 0.
