Youngsters on tour

Latics' youth team leaves early today for an 11-day all-expenses paid tour to Holland.

The club gained funding from League Footballers' Education (LFE) for the trip which also sees Derby County and Cheltenham Town joining them.

The LFE make one place available for each of the Football League's three divisions and Latics made a successful bid.

It is a two-centre trip as they will be based in Horst close to the German border until weekend when they move to Delden and the Dutch FA's national base, their equivalent of the new Burton national school.

As well as the football - Latics have three matches - it is also deemed an educational and cultural trip.

They have fixtures against Fortuna Sittard on Wednesday, NEC Nijmegen on Saturday and Vitesse Arnhem next Tuesday.

Latics are also hoping to play a fourth game against Cheltenham.

There will also be a day trip to Amsterdam to take in the cultural sights as well as the Ajax v PSV Dutch Charity Shield at the Amsterdam Arena.
