Event back with a bang
A whole new generation of Oldham residents are set to enjoy the magic of an organised fireworks display for the very first time on Bonfire Night.
Boundary Park is hosting the spectacular free family event on Monday, November 5 (6pm – 8.35pm) which returns with a bang after an absence of more than a decade.
Oldham Council can now reveal the final line-up for the evening – and more about the fireworks showcase.
The display is such a precise science that Fantastic Fireworks have spent several weeks planning it.
From 8.15pm the crowd will see a stunning kaleidoscope of colour as thousands of stars dance in time to music with exciting patterns lighting up the night sky.
Thunderous firework salvos will include beautiful gold-tailed comets, bouquets of sky-filling starbursts, rapid-fire roman candles and brightly coloured flares that will light up the scene in a frenzy of fire.
This display’s theme reflects on the ‘feelgood factor’ ignited during 2012 by events like the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee, and features uplifting music including favourites from Elbow, Robbie Williams, Madness, and the Jubilee Choir.
Jon Culverhouse, Managing Director of Fantastic Fireworks is the man behind the display. An avid firework fan since he was a schoolboy, he began working in the industry 25 years ago and knows exactly how to inspire a new generation.

“I think it’s the choreography of the fireworks to the music which will most impress the audience”, he said.
This event – planned with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Greater Manchester Police to maximise public safety – takes place on the car park at the rear of the former Broadway Stand at Oldham Athletic.
A range of family-oriented attractions are on offer including a small bonfire, games and activities, and food stalls selling traditional food.
Other highlights include two stunning 25-minute performances from FlameOz – a multi award winning fireshow from professionals mixing dance, balance and fire manipulation – at 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
Crowd-pleasing shows from stiltwalking LightWalkers in a multicolour swirl of costume and light will also take place throughout the evening.
Councillor Amanda Chadderton, Assistant Cabinet Member, said: “My mum and dad used to take me to the original bonfires at Alexandra Park and I can still remember how excited I used to be in the days leading up to it.”
“It is only right that Oldham should again have a free, safe and fun organised fireworks display for our families and communities – it can be a magical experience, especially for children.
“An organised display is part of the annual calendar of events in most other areas and we’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing it back.
“I would urge people to get themselves down to Boundary Park on Bonfire Night – and bring your friends and family along too.
"We would advise you to plan ahead, arrive early and use public transport where possible.”
"Car parking will be limited – none on the site itself – and nearby roads will have the same parking arrangements as on a normal Latics matchday so spaces will be very limited.
The event timetable is:
6pm onwards – The Wrong Size’s Stiltwalkers will walk through and entertain the crowd
6pm – Gates open
9pm – Site closes
8.35pm – Finish
8.15pm – Firework display (20 minutes)
7.30pm – FlameOz fireshow 2 (25 minutes)
7pm – Lighting of the Bonfire
6.30pm – FlameOz fireshow 1 (25 minutes)
