Derbyshire sees double

9 November 2012

I should have scored eight goals says Matt

Matt Derbyshire is a "frustrated" footballer.

Latics' striker (pictured) believes he ought to have scored at least doubled his total of four goals for the Boundary Park club.

The striker points to the four goals which replays have proved were wrongly ruled out for offside.

"I have been speaking to the gaffer about it and there have been four that weren't offside," he said.

And with other chances which have gone begging, Derbyshire believes he could easily have already been in double figures.

"It is ridiculous and linesmen have got to get these big decisions right," he continued.

Derbyshire believes it is a case of the referee's assistants watching the ball as opposed to the line which is why they are getting important decisions wrong.

He said: "They are watching the ball first and then the line, but by that time I have gone clear.

"I am not an official, but I know the rule and assistants are supposed to look at the line and not the ball.

"It is very frustrating but  what can I do? It has gone and I have to get on with playing."
