Duxbury praises spirit

13 November 2012

We were disciplined says coach

Lee Duxbury praised the spirit and resolve of his Latics' reserve team despite the 2-0 defeat they suffered this afternoon at home to Shrewsbury Town in their Central League divisional match.

"The young lads showed a lot of effort and kept their discipline," explained reserve-team manager Duxbury.

He was pleased how his team failed to buckle in the wake of adversity.

Latics lost defenders Connor Brown and Joe Cooper through injury in the opening period and only played Youssouf M'Changama for the first 45 minutes.

So in the second half their line up included eight scholars.

He continued: "We were up against an experienced side and their players had good movement.

"We that happens you have to keep your shape and we did that.

"Hopefully they will have learned from the experience."

Duxbury was pleased with the performances of goalkeeper Alex Cisak, who saved Latics from a heavier defeat, and striker Matt Smith for his tireless work up front.
