Latics hold high-flyers

Latics comfortably held high-flying Doncaster Rovers in their rearranged npower League One match at the Keepmoat Stadium.

It was, however, an opening period which failed to sparkle as each side cancelled out the other.

Latics made a solid start in a low-key opening in a game in which there was a lack of goalmouth incident.

James Wesolowski (pictured) fired a long-range drive wide while for Doncaster Tommy Spurr's header from a corner drifted well wide.

Latics had Jean-Yves M'voto and Wesolowski booked in quick succession for fouls.

Captain Dean Furman shot wide on the turn from a corner while for the hosts Iain Hume's header forced a stretching save from keeper Dean Bouzanis.

Jose Baxter tested home keeper Gary Woods with a long-range shot shortly before the break.

Half-time: Doncaster Rovers 0, Latics 0.
