Fan seeks to preserve club's history

Gary Davies is seeking help from fans as he bids to preserve Latics' history and heritage.

He is looking for VHS videos of Latics' matches, especially in the 1980's, so he can transfer them onto DVD.

Gary explained: "I  have copied all my Latics' VHS videos onto DVD, not to sell but so that I can still watch them.:

"I have acquired a number of  tapes over the last few years and some were in an awful state. Many of the tapes had mould growing on them so there was no chance of getting a decent picture.

"It is the negative of the format, especially as video tape machines become rarer and rarer. Even charity shops no longer take donations of tapes.

"Being a collector, I would like to preserve as many tapes of Latics' games as possible by transferring them to DVD as once the tapes have deteriorated the games are lost forever."

Gary's idea is to build a library of games that would be a historical record and he is looking for tapes, as sold by the club, for games, particularly in the 1980's, to be either donated or loaned.
