Latics fail to tame Shrews

13 November 2012

Painful defeat for Duxbury's men

Latics reserves did well to restrict Shrewsbury Town to a 2-0 victory in their Central League divisional fixture at Chapel Road.

They had to battle against adversity after losing Connor Brown and Joe Cooper through injury in the opening period.

That left a young and inexperienced side even weaker as the Shrews could well have won by a wider Margin.

They twice struck the frame of Latics' goal and keeper Alex Cisak (pictured) also made some important saves.

Shrewsbury took a seventh minute lead when Tom Bradshaw slotted the ball home after running on to a diagonal pass.

Bradshaw also struck the frame of the goal and other chances went begging as the Shrews could have been out of sight by the break.

Latics were also hindered by losing Brown with a jaw injury and Cooper with a nasty gash to his left knee. They had already lost Daniel Taylor, who was named in the initial team, after he picked up a knock in training.

Youssouf M'Changama was also substituted at the break leaving Latics with eight scholars in their side in the second period.

Former Latics' player Joe Jacobson popped up to fire home the second Shrews goal seven minutes into the second period.

In the last 20 minutes, Ryan Doble struck the frame of the goal while Cisak saved well from Bradshaw and Doble to prevent an even heavier defeat.
