Cooper in squad for Kidderminster

A week training with Latics' first team convinced Paul Dickov that scholar Joe Cooper was ready for promotion to Latics' first-team squad for tomorrow's FA Cup with Budweiser, first-round match at Kidderminster Harriers.

Second-year scholar Cooper has been called into the squad to provide defensive cover in the absence of the suspended Jean-Yves M'voto.

The Frenchman's pain has been Cooper's gain as the Oldham lad gets his chance.

Latics' manager said: "Jean's suspension gives an opportunity to Joe and it will be good experience to have him involved.

"He has been training with the first team all week and done well as he also has for Tony Philliskirk in the youth team.

"As I have said throughout my time here, kids who do well will be considered for the first team."

Former Saddleworth School pupil Cooper has only just returned to action after a lay off through an ankle injury.

His first appearance back was in last Friday's FA Youth Cup win against Accrington Stanley.
