Duxbury praise for young striker

Lee Duxbury says Daniel Taylor's hat trick for Latics' reserves in their 4-1 victory against Wrexham was reward for his work on the training ground.

Reserve-team manager Duxbury was impressed with the display of the teenage striker (pictured) who was signed from Newcastle United last summer.

He said: "It is always difficult for any young player moving away from home for the first time and Daniel has taken time to settle.

"I am delighted for him as he works hard in training every day and always does the right things, though they don't always come off.

"His quality has always been there and it is starting to shine through."

Duxbury added the 4-1 victory was achieved through a collective team effort.

He explained: "It was a good team performance from keeper Liam Jacob, who made some excellent saves, to Daniel Taylor who scored three goals.

"The two wingers put over some good crosses, the central midfield players dominated while the distribution of the full backs was excellent."

Duxbury was especially pleased with Kirk Millar who played as a central striker just behind Taylor and Carl Winchester who started in the centre of midfield and finished playing at centre back.
