Latics sign on three
Latics have signed on three schoolboys following a successful trial match on Saturday.As Latics were without a match in the Football League Youth Alliance, Head of Youth Tony Philliskirk (pictured) decided to play the youth team against the under-16's Centre of Excellence team.
It was an opportunity to look at seven schoolboy trialists with three impressing sufficiently to be taken on until the end of the season.
Though the youth team won 5-1, Philliskirk says it was only 3-1 after an hour.
It was only in the latter stages that the schoolboys wilted against lads who train full time.
"I was really pleased how the schoolboys did and the game more than served its purpose," explained Philliskirk.
A similar trial was planned yesterday for the under-15's, but had to be called off because of a waterlogged pitch.
