No way to goal for Jose

Jose Baxter must be wondering how he failed to find the net during Latics' goalless opening half against Leyton Orient at Boundary Park.

The former Everton striker (pictured) had a host of chances, but just couldn't find a way to goal.

Latics had the first clear-cut chance of the match when Baxter met a Lee Croft cross and forced a terrific save from keeper Ryan Allop

Baxter could have completed a hat trick inside the opening 12 minutes as he also had a free kick which deflected off the defensive wall and fly just wide before seeing a downward header from Croft's corner loop over the crossbar.

Orient had their first goal attempt midway through the half when a volley from Martin Rowlands forced a smart save from Dean Bouzanis diving low to his left.

Latics continued to carve out chances as Croft fired wide and then Jean-Yves M'voto had a free header from a Croft corner but couldn't find the target.

Half-time: Latics 0, Leyton Orient 0.
