Latics' defensive worries

M'voto, Tarkowski on treatment table

Latics have central-defensive concerns with Jean-Yves M'voto and James Tarkowski both on the treatment table.

M'voto (pictured) damaged his ankle in the midweek npower League One win at Crewe and missed yesterday's victory against Preston.

His replacement Tarkowski limped out of yesterday's win against Preston in the opening half with a hip injury.

Paul Dickov does not believe either injury is serious and is optimistic both could be available for next Saturday's league game at Sheffield United.

Latics' manager explained that a scan showed some inflammation in M'voto's ankle and, after taking medical advice, it was felt unwise to risk aggravating it.

"For the sake of one game, and Jean making it worse, we decided it was not worth it with a view to him being ready for Sheffield United," he said.

Latics' manager added that Tarkowski's performance against Crewe warranted a start against Preston rather than forcing M'voto to play when not 100-per-cent.
